Science - The Year at a Glance

Our activities in science will be directed by some "Big Ideas"

Big Idea 1: Problem-based learning is a powerful way to learn.  It requires students to analyze a problem situation, discover and select information that applies to its solution, and obtain information in a variety of ways.

We begin with real world problem solving.
Students will take an active role in identifying and resolving a problem constructed to promote scientific learning using the scientific method.

Magnetism and Electricity will be the focus of student investigations.

Big Idea 2: Powerful learning also takes place when students can be active participants in choosing what they learn and how they learn it.  Using brainstorming and consensus activities, students will determine their topics of choice and be facilitated, by the teacher, in individual and small group learning communities.
