Reading/Language Arts
Welcome to room 204! The students will be learning from the common core standards in curriculum companion. We will read many exciting stories and concentrate on reading skills such as summarizing, sequencing, making inferences, and reading for understanding.
In writing, we will cover the four different genres of writing which include descriptive, informative, narrative and persuasive. We will start out the year with a narrative writing unit. Throughout the year we will also write fun pieces which will cover various seasonal concepts in writing. Reading and Writing will be integrated throughout the year with Science and Social Studies. Writing for a purpose will be emphasized.
Math
The students are working very hard in Math. We use the Envisions Curriculum at Jefferson. The third grade does a lot of differentiation for math. The students math level is identified and then lessons are tailored to their individual needs. Envisions concentrates on the state common core standards.
Science/Social Studies
In Social Studies we concentrate on Map skills. Students will learn how to read a map, including using scale, map keys and a compass rose. They will also learn more about the continents and oceans on a map. We will study the map of Wisconsin as well as the Great Lakes region. In Science we we use a new Science curriculum that focuses on many different concepts such as Engineering, Life Cycles, Weather, Motion and many more.
A few of our students dressed up for our Thanksgiving/
